Heritage Winnipeg is very pleased to present our 9th annual Doors Open Winnipeg event. Explore some of Winnipeg’s most fascinating buildings and enjoy many walking tours and events during this free weekend. If you love history, and appreciate unique architecture, come discover the tales held within some of Winnipeg’s most impressive walls. Volunteers will be on hand at each building for tours and to answer questions. Watch for all the details in the Winnipeg Free Press Insert on Thursday, May 24th, 2012.

Back by popular demand! Take a walk with Sir Hugh John Macdonald from his home at Dalnavert to the Millennium Library. On route, Sir Hugh will introduce you to the many downtown sites that touched his life and continue to play a role in Winnipeg’s urban setting. At the Millennium Library, the tour will wrap in the Local History Room where participants will learn how to find out more about the people, places, and history that surrounds us every day! We are interested in your ideas for the potential arts related uses for this historic structure.

February 16th 2012. Tour from 7:00 pm to 7:45 pm followed by a discussion.
Please note the tour requires climbing stairs.

Winnipeg Ghost Walk

Winnipeg Ghost Walk is your opportunity to see and hear about some of Winnipeg’s most haunted buildings. What deadly events took place where the Cube at Old Market Square now stands? Who is still performing at the Burton Cummings Theatre almost one-hundred years after his death? Where is the most haunted building in Winnipeg? Those participating in the Winnipeg Ghost Walk will learn the answer to these questions and hear many other spooky tales about Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Ghost Walk is the city’s first walking tour focusing on the supernatural. By offering a ghost tour that is not dependent on a chartered bus Winnipeg Ghost Walk offers the most affordable ghost tour in the city. Developed and delivered by some of the city’s most experienced tour guides the ghost walk is an excellent Halloween activity.

Join us for an amazing tour of beautiful Inner City Community Gardens! 

Kick off the night with snacks and a stroll around the Orioles Community Gardens, 444 Burnell Street, before taking off on a bus or bike at 5:30 for a tour of several inner city community gardens.

It will be an evening of garden wisdom, inspiring stories, and a chance to see some of the incredible changes that come with greening a community! 

Strollers, kids and all welcome! 

Donations accepted at the door for the Community Gardens that we visit.

Gardens to be visited include: 
Orioles Community Garden, Winnipeg Central Mosque Garden, Hugh McDonald School Garden, Young Street Community Garden, Furby Community Garden, Broadway Neighbourhood Centre Garden and Edible Heritage Youth Garden on Westminster.
